Shadows on a Wall

The shadow of the tree on this wall caught my attention as I was getting out of my car at the Crane building.  I'd like to run right over there and trace it on.

Pennypack Park

Matt and I took a nice hike through part of Pennypack Park on Sunday.  I quiet stroll on a wintery day.

Feels Familiar

This tree feels familiar.  It looks a little like those concentric rings I've been making in the studio. 

Reconstructed

Here's a few shots from the show that just came down.  I'm in the process of framing works for an upcoming show at the Arlington Arts Center.  Unfortunately, I just opened up my box of white matte boards only to discover they are "Williamsburg Blue" which was the option directly below "White" when I placed the order.  Sob.  Nothing is ever easy.

Sunset in the City

I left the studio as the sun was setting this evening.  I exited the building just in time to see this beautiful Red-tailed Hawk sail over head.  He landed on this church/school which is now a studio building one block over.  Such perfect light.

4th of July Run

The fireworks in front of the Art Museum were a lot more dramatic than we expected this year.  Unfortunately it wasn't the actual fireworks but the stampede that was memorable.  We missed the grand finale, lost 3 chairs and a sweatshirt, but didn't step on anyone or get stepped on.  Olivia and I did get separated from Matt.  Cell phones were down of course and we finally got back together at the car.  This morning there is almost no reporting on the event.  NBC seems to be the only coverage and they are saying that someone fired a BB gun into a crowd and started the stampede.  But they aren't commenting on who was hurt.  There were at least 7 little kids on the blanket behind us and dozens in the near vicinity.   We saw a lot of lost people on our way to the car.  It's amazing to experience something so dangerous and not have any mention of it in the press.

Wagner Free Institute

Olivia and I spent part of her day off yesterday at the Wagner Free Institute of Science of Philadelphia.  I hadn't been back since my grad school days but it really is a cool place.  I sketched my way through the collection.  Olivia did much less sketching but I think she looked at every specimen.

Church Demolition

I drove past this the other day and had to come back to take pictures.  It's sad to see an old church like this get torn down.  It seems to have had a long history. 

City Hike

Thursday afternoon I walked my class down Broad Street for about 2.5 miles until we got to the art supply store.  It was great weather for a walk and despite a lack of enthusiasm for the project I think they all had a good enough time.  I know I did.  Hopefully it will result in some good artwork...

Magic Gardens

I pass Philadelphia's Magic Gardens every time I go to Whole Foods in South Philly.  We finally took the time to go see it- so much fun!

The Philadelphia Thing

Friends came to town this week so we went out and did the Philadelphia thing with them.
