Grossglockner High Alpine Road

This was the first time I've spent any time in the Alps and I have to say we picked a fabulous place to start.  The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is a stunning drive with so many great hiking opportunities.  I would really like to go back and stay awhile longer.  I can't even tell you how much fun it would be to sit around and draw some rocks. 

Some Small Things From A Large Place

Mittersill, Austria

Our home base in Austria was the town of Mittersill.  And as you can see at the end of our first rainy day we were rewarded with a sunset rainbow.

The Second Hike

Monday evening after checking in to our apartment we decided to explore another nearby hike.  The rain had cleared a bit while we were inside but of course it came back the moment we got out of the car.  It was also getting dark so we kept the hike short but it really was beautiful with the fog and those greens!

More From the First Hike

Olivia wasn't too keen on a hike in the rain at first.  We had an early "you are having fun ----dammit" parenting (or nonparenting) moment.  But everything changed when she saw the horses.  After that it was all good. 

Wow

It's really difficult to pick out photos from our hikes in Austria.  There are so many to choose from.  We arrived in the late afternoon after driving from Wolfratshausen in the rain.  It had rained all day and wasn't quitting just because it was time for us to explore the great outdoors.  We picked a small hike not too far from our lodgings, piled on the rain gear, and took a walk.  Even looking back at the photos all I can really say is "Wow."
