Epic Struggles, Happy Ending

This hat is on the cover of Vogue Knitting: The Ultimate Hat Book and from the moment I saw it I HAD to knit it for Olivia.  But first I HAD to wait for the library to find me a copy.  Then Olivia and I picked out the perfect yarn...  Okay not so perfect since it wasn't even close to the guage but since I just knit a hat on the same needles I decided to figure it out.  "IT" turned out to be major pattern alterations because it's a lace pattern and you can't just skip 2 or 4 rows and go on your merry way.  So to make a long story short I spent days knitting the same 15 feet of yarn over and over and over.  And I repeated this experience 3 times.  Once for each place where my alterations needed to occur.  IT WAS PAINFUL.  And couldn't have happened without all those snow days.  But now the sun is out and the hat is completed and very beautiful if I do say so myself.  However, if I make another one it will be with the correct weight yarn, sigh.
