Trenton Doyle Hancock

Somehow with the semester ending, Christmas shopping, painting, and visiting NYC and Virginia I have not taken a single picture outside since the fog photos I took on the 10th.  I plan to change that tomorrow assuming the sun comes out.  In the mean time here's an image from Trenton Doyle Hancock's show at James Cohen Gallery, "...And Then It All Came Back To Me."

A Visit to the Philadelphia Museum of Art

I went to the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Sunday and found myself drawn to the medium to small paintings, especially the ones that were overflowing with information in some way.

Still Life with Flowers and Fruit (detail), c1890, Pierre-Auguste Renior

Still Life with a Bowl of Fruit, 1933, Pierre Bonnard

Water Lilies, Japanese Footbridge, 1918-26, Claude Monet

Still Life with Terms and a Bust of Ceres (detail), c1630, Frans Snyders

Painting in the Great Outdoors, Day 2

A park ranger came out this morning to see what I was doing taking up all kinds of space and making lots of noise.  (When I dropped the stretcher to the ground it sounded a lot like a gun shot and Ranger Tony showed up right afterward.)  His arrival handily coincided with me not being able to get one of my stretcher pieces in place by myself.  So I put him to work.  He hung around until I stood the painting up.  Then he left without commenting so I don't think he was too impressed.  Ha.  He did mention that I might have started back into painting on something smaller...

Around Town

Another interesting place I drive past on the way to the studio. It seems to be an ever changing landscape of sorts.

I've decided not to move this blog. I'll keep it going here and use the tumblr one as well. Each space seems to have unique characteristics but I do like what I have going on here. So keep coming back for more. But also check out colleenstrailblog.tumblr.com which will be more visual (not much text) and more about my art.

September in the Studio

I've been making new work in the studio, working smaller and on canvas. These are both 24"x24". (miniature for me.) I'm putting the text here because these two really shouldn't be very close to each other. I photographed these outside today. I was a beautiful day but too sunny for photographing art. It does give you a good view of how I've manipulated the canvas. I think the top image is a little washed out but you can really see the weave.

Amanda Hoss

Amanda Hoss just sent me this new image of her work. It's so beautiful I had to share!
