Colorful birds and colorful leaves, isn't October awesome?  I took these the same morning as the fog.  The birds were having a field day thanks to the gazillion bugs.  I really wish I hadn't forgotten the bug spray!  I also wish I had gotten a shot of the black-throated blue warbler.  Argh.  There's always one that gets away!

Fall Warblers

I got up early on Saturday to walk at Heinz NWR and was well rewarded for my trouble.  I saw lots and lots of warblers including these four.  Top to bottom: American Redstart, Palm Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Northern Parula.

For a second day in a row Olivia and I got up early to do some birding.  I made some adjustments to my camera and improved today's photos.  Yesterday I had multiple photos where even the trees were blurry.  I was actually reprimanding myself out loud while I looked at them.  There is no excuse, after all, for the stationary objects in a photo not to be in focus.

I decided to forgo common sense today and take a walk around Heinz with holes in my feet.  I justified it by saying it would be a short walk.  I hobbled/geisha walked around the small loop through Warbler Woods.  I was just beginning to think my pain was all for nothing when I caught sight of this Black-and-white Warbler.

Spring

Sunday I decided I couldn't stand to spend anymore time inside and dragged my very tired self over to Heinz for a late afternoon walk.  What a great walk!  Or Is should say what a great stand around!  As soon as I got to Warbler Woods I stopped walking.  The birds were everywhere.  I spent at least an hour standing around.  Pine, Palm, and Yellow-rumped Warblers, Kinglets, Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, Downy and Red-bellied Woodpeckers, etc.  A Pheobe flew right at my face and stopped short on a branch and I got my best shot yet of a male Wood Duck.  Those sneaky devils always manage to see me first.

In the Trees

Edwin B. Forsythe NWR also has a wooded area. I stopped for a bit on my way out and got a few photos of the birds frolicking there. Including the orchard oriole, a new bird for me.
