Juvenile Red-tailed Hawk in Action

Sometimes you go for a nice long walk and see the best stuff in the parking lot.  At first I thought this juvenile Red-tailed Hawk was a completely inept hunter.  But when I got home I saw that he did successfully catch a snake in the grass, even if he didn't manage to grab the squirrel.  A squirrel, it turns out, can actually manage to look like a terrifying and dangerous animal.  No good photos of the actual capture/attempt but some fun inflight images...
